This blog is for the new wedding photographer, the professional wedding photographer unsure of their pricing, and for the newly engaged searching for that perfect photographer for their special day.
I have been a professional photographer since 2011, and in the beginning, I did not charge for all the time, equipment and supply costs that are required for a single wedding.
Only charging for the hours actually spent photographing on the wedding day, I really thought I was making it worth my time. Wow! I was so surprised when I finally added up the time and equipment costs spent on one wedding. If you are on the search for a professional wedding photographer, being educated on why they charge what they charge can be helpful in getting what you paid for and peace of mind knowing your special day will be captured properly. Also supporting a small business paying for someone's talent so they can continue to do what they do best and serve more couples by telling their love story is a big plus.
First, how much time on average does a wedding photographer spend on one wedding? Below is an estimate based on an average of several weddings.
Remember this is the average time spent photographing a single wedding day. It does not include the cost of goods, paying for equipment, supplies, etc. If you are a wedding photographer, take other costs into consideration when setting your wedding photography packages and pricing. I like to give my couples packages that include a large print or beautiful large photo album and the cost of these can set the photographer back hundreds of dollars.
